Rudrabhishek puja at Baidyanath Dham: booking, price and what is included

Rudrabhishek is the abhishek of Shiva in his Rudra form: the linga is bathed with offerings such as Ganga jal, milk, curd, honey and ghee while the pandits chant Vedic hymns to Rudra. Devotees do it to pray for health, peace in the family and relief from difficulty, and many do it to mark a vow fulfilled.

Doing it at Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is why many families make the journey. MandirMay offers two Rudrabhishek options at Baidyanath Dham. Both include all the puja samagri, the aarti and access to the garbhagriha outside the Shravan season.

• Rudrabhishek with 2 pandits. Up to four family members can sit for the puja. It suits a couple or a small family.
• Rudrabhishek with 4 pandits. Up to six family members can sit for the puja. It suits a larger family or a special occasion.

Neither option includes the VIP darshan pass. If you want a shorter wait for darshan on the same day, add the Shighra (VIP) darshan pass to your booking.

• Sankalp puja, a personalised vow and prayer, for one, two or four people, with assistance to the garbhagriha.
• Gathbandhan puja for couples. A ribbon is tied between the Shiva and Parvati temples to seek blessings for the marriage.

During the Shravan season, the temple's administrative rules move special pujas like Rudrabhishek out of the main garbha griha. They are performed in the outer halls or shared spaces instead. This is how the temple manages the very large Shravani Mela crowds, and it applies to every booking, not only MandirMay's.

The puja itself, the pandits, the samagri and the aarti stay the same. What changes is the place. If being inside the garbha griha matters to you, plan your Rudrabhishek outside Shravan. October to March is also the most comfortable time of year to visit Deoghar.

1. Choose Rudrabhishek on the Baidyanath Dham page, pick two or four pandits, and select your date. The price for that date is shown before you pay.
2. Pay an advance online through Razorpay. The rest is paid before your visit.
3. Share the names and gotra of the family members for the sankalp, if you know them. The pandits take them at the start of the puja.
4. We confirm on WhatsApp with your puja time and your representative's details.
5. On the day, your representative meets you, takes you to the pandits, and stays with you until the aarti is over.

Wear traditional clothes, and leave leather belts, wallets and bags behind. Carry a government photo ID for every devotee.
