Baidyanath Dham opening hours
Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar is open to devotees from 4 AM to 10 PM.
| What | Time |
|---|---|
| Temple opens | 4 AM |
| VIP (Shighra) darshan entry | 6 AM to 3 PM |
| Temple closes | 10 PM |
Through these hours the temple also performs its own daily rituals, such as the early-morning puja and the evening shringar of the Jyotirlinga. While these run, the movement of the queue can slow or pause for a while. The times of these rituals shift with the season and on festival days, so treat the opening hours as the outer limits of your day rather than a promise that the line moves at every hour.
If you are travelling a long way for darshan, tell us your date when you book, and we confirm the temple's arrangements for that day.

VIP (Shighra) darshan timings
The temple's faster line, called Shighra darshan and widely known as the VIP darshan pass, takes devotees in between 6 AM and 3 PM. You reach the same sanctum as the general queue, with a shorter wait.
If you arrive after 3 PM, you can still take darshan until the temple closes, but you will be in the general queue. If a shorter wait matters to you, plan to be at the temple in the morning or around midday.
MandirMay arranges the Shighra pass with jal, flowers and bel patra ready, and a MandirMay representative takes you through in that window. Today's price is in the table below. See Shighra darshan booking for how the line works, or the VIP darshan pass page for what the arrangement includes.
The best time of day for darshan
- Early morning on a weekday is usually the calmest time, and it suits devotees who want to offer jal before the day's crowds build.
- Late morning to early afternoon is a good time for Shighra darshan, and you still have time afterwards for a Rudrabhishek or a trip to Basukinath.
- Evening in the general queue is possible until closing, but lines can be long on busy days.
Staying near the temple makes an early start easy. MandirMay's rooms are within a short walk of the entrance; see hotels near the temple.
Busy days, Shravan and festivals
The temple is busiest on Mondays, which are sacred to Shiva, on Mahashivratri, and through Shravan, when the Shravani Mela brings kanwariyas carrying Ganga jal from Sultanganj. On these days every line is longer, the Shighra line included, and the temple may change its hours and arrangements for the crowds.
During the Shravan season the temple's administration also has special pujas like Rudrabhishek performed in the outer halls or shared spaces rather than the main garbha griha.
If you can choose, go on a weekday outside Shravan. October to March is the most comfortable time of year in Deoghar. For festival dates and what changes, see Shravani Mela in Deoghar and Mahashivratri at Baidyanath Dham.
Planning your darshan day
- Arrive the evening before if you are coming from far away. Deoghar Airport is about 12 km from the temple, and Jasidih Junction about 8 km. See how to reach Deoghar.
- Wear traditional clothes and leave leather belts, wallets and bags at the hotel.
- Carry a government photo ID for every devotee.
- Book Shighra darshan for the 6 AM to 3 PM window if you want a shorter wait, and a puja for after darshan if you plan one.
If you would rather not plan each part, a ready-made Deoghar trip puts darshan, puja, a room and transfers in one booking, and you can see today's prices in the table below.
