Baidyanath as a Jyotirlinga pilgrimage

Many devotees set out to take darshan of all twelve Jyotirlingas, the most sacred abodes of Shiva, over years or in one long yatra. Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar is one of them. Devotees know it as the place where Shiva is worshipped as Vaidyanath, the healer, and many come to pray for the health of someone they love.

A Jyotirlinga visit is not a sightseeing trip. What matters is a calm darshan, the chance to offer jal and bel patra yourself, and, for many families, a Rudrabhishek at the Jyotirlinga. The rest of the trip (where you sleep, how you get there, when you go to the temple) should make that easier rather than get in its way.

That is how MandirMay plans a Baidyanath Jyotirlinga trip: darshan and puja first, with the stay, transfers and side visits built around them, and a MandirMay representative with you at the dham.

Ready-made Jyotirlinga trips at Baidyanath Dham

These are the ready-made trips MandirMay plans at the Jyotirlinga; pick one on the Baidyanath Dham page when it fits your dates.

Baidyanath Dham Darshan & Rudrabhishek, two nights and three days, is the fuller pilgrimage:

  • Airport pickup on arrival and a hotel near the dham for two nights.
  • VIP (Shighra) darshan on the first day, with jal, flowers and bel patra ready, and a Sankalp puja.
  • A Rudrabhishek by MandirMay's pandits on the second day.
  • Sightseeing by cab to Basukinath, Tapovan and Trikut Pahar.
  • Airport drop on the last day.

This trip is customisable. You can add a night, change the arrival point, or add rooms for a larger family.

Baidyanath VIP Darshan & Sankalp is a same-day visit: the VIP pass past the long general queue and a Sankalp puja with a pandit. It suits pilgrims passing through Deoghar on a longer route.

When a trip is on sale, today's price is in the table below. The price for your date and group is shown before you pay.

Darshan and puja at the Jyotirlinga

Darshan. The VIP pass is the temple's Shighra line, which is shorter than the general queue and leads to the same sanctum. Shighra entry runs from 6 AM to 3 PM, and the temple is open from 4 AM to 10 PM. See Shighra darshan booking for how the line works.

Rudrabhishek. You can book it with two pandits (up to four family members) or four pandits (up to six), with all samagri and the aarti included. During the Shravan season, the temple's rules have Rudrabhishek done in the outer halls rather than the garbha griha. See Rudrabhishek at Baidyanath Dham.

Sankalp and Gathbandhan. A Sankalp puja is a personal vow and prayer, for one, two or four people. Couples can do the Gathbandhan puja, in which a ribbon is tied between the Shiva and Parvati temples.

Every puja and pass can be booked on its own on the Baidyanath Dham page if you'd rather put your own trip together.

Basukinath and the places around Deoghar

Many pilgrims hold that a visit to Baidyanath is completed by darshan at Basukinath, a Shiva temple in the Dumka district of Jharkhand, and they go there after Baba Dham. MandirMay's sightseeing cab covers Basukinath along with Tapovan and Trikut Pahar, two hill sites near Deoghar.

The sightseeing cab takes up to four people, or up to six in a larger car, and toll taxes are included. See the Basukinath temple guide before you go.

Adding Kashi Vishwanath to your Jyotirlinga yatra

Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi is another of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and some pilgrims visit Baidyanath and Kashi on the same journey. MandirMay books darshan at both, as separate bookings. In Varanasi, look for a two-night Kashi Darshan, Ganga Aarti & Boat trip when one fits your dates, and the Varanasi tour package page compares the options there.

Plan travel time between Deoghar and Varanasi when you choose your dates, and tell us your route when you book so we can line up your pickups.

When to go. October to March is the most comfortable time of year in Deoghar. Mondays, Mahashivratri and Shravan bring the biggest crowds. If your yatra has to fall in Shravan, book early. See darshan timings and how to reach Deoghar to plan the days.
